It occupies the highest place of the town. According to some studies carried out by the University of Cordoba, this is the first place in Spain having contemporaneous funerary architecture after the Spanish Royal Decree of 1787 about cemeteries made by the King Carlos the third.

The cemetery of Fernán Núñez takes part of the Association of Significant Cemeteries of Europe, certified as a singular cemetery because of the historical, artistic and architectonical values.
